The Maimonides Leaders Fellowship
In order to represent the Jewish people,
You need to know what the Jewish People represent.
Maimonides Leaders Fellowship was originally founded in 1999, at the University of Michigan and now includes over twenty campuses both in the US and Canada.
The Maimonides Leaders Fellowship is a unique opportunity designed to let Jewish students learn about Jewish leadership and get paid for it. This selective, highly competitive program, will allow you to explore many fundamental Jewish ideas in a comfortable and open environment, and to discuss and debate these ideas with prominent Jewish leaders.
The fellowship term lasts 10 weeks during which students attend a weekly 2.5 hour seminar, covering a diverse set of values, tackle essential concepts in Jewish thought and their practical applications in the leadership of society.
The program consists of several components:
- The Lecture: led by dynamic local rabbis, making Jewish philosophy come alive.
- Discussion: engage in a half-hour dialogue, facilitated by Maimonides alumni.
- Guest Speaker: hear how real Jewish leaders infuse their positions with passion.
- Two Sunday Trips: 2 exciting field trips exploring the highlights of the Jewish community in Toronto & discovering the WHY’s of being Jewish
- Two Shabbatons: get a chance to kick back and get to know the other participants.
- The Journal: reflect on what you have gained every week from the program.
Designed to accommodate the busy university schedule, classes are held one evening a week, the few trips are held on weekends and homework is minimal. A generous stipend ($500) is provided to allow participants to focus on the thrill of becoming an educated Jewish leader! (you have the option to put your $500 towards a trip to Israel)
Specifically, the goals of the Maimonides Leadership Fellowship are to:
Enable participants to investigate many of the core spiritual/philosophical ideas that make the Jewish people unique, with an eye on what this teaches us about Jewish leadership and responsibility
Interact with leaders and exceptional people in the Jewish world, (who act as mentors to the students)hear their stories, and develop a first hand understanding of what it takes to be a Jewish leader
This is a fascinating program, which enables the participant to gain not only a new perspective of the world, but of their own life and self, while becoming more familiar with their roots.
